Chimney settleing

I am interested in details on if it is possible for a chimney to settle and pull away from the house based on natural settling (no weather realated factors) in a time frame of almost 4 years. The chimney went from 3/16 of an inch to about 2 or more.

Are there any web sites that would have specific info on settleing
