In heavy rain & snow thaws, I have water beginning to enter from opposite corners of the basement. When the floor is full of water, there are bubbles coming up through the cracks in the floor. One contractor says ALL water is starting at the perimeter and wants to do the entire perimeter. Another contractor wants to do laterals more or less where the cracks are and a few feet in the corners. Both are using drainage pipes. Any thoughts? Thank you.
People get water when it rains or snow melts like you have suggested. This water is surface water that saturated the ground around the foundation. Usually this water enters the basement from the perimeter first. The reason the cracks are leaking is that they are filling with water from the perimeter (path of least resistance) and then appear to be leaking upward when in fact 99% of the time if you cut it off you will contain the situation.
