I have municipal water but the pressure is very bad. The house is about 50 years old. When I moved in several years ago I saw a big tank with a motor in the basement. I now realize this must have been a pressure pump.

I would like to replace it with something that works. I recently saw a pump that does not require a tank. It increases the psi by 50. It is a a 1hp motor that only is on when the water is turned on. My question, how well do these tankless pumps work. Are the ones with the tanks better? How do I know which one (or brand ) is the most appropriate to my needs.

Hi Katie,

You should call a plumber. They'll be able to tell you specifics about your towns’ regulations on pump style and line connections.

We can help you on this forum with Basement, foundation repair and waterproofing issues, but as far as plumbing and water pressure...you'd be better off calling a local plumber.

A few years ago I had problems with our local plumbing company. They "repaired" more than what was necessary and so it became very expensive. I'd recommend to contact more than one plumber to compare prices.

I agree.

My situation is unique because I've been using the same Plumber for years; we have a good professional relationship. But if you're just getting started finding a local plumber do shop around.

That is always the best thing you can have - your plumber who you know already since years!
Unfortunately that is very hard to get - dont you think so?
