I am thinking about buying a house which has a raised foundation but an addition on a slab foundation. This house is in Glendale, CA where there is not much rain. It is on dry sandy soil. Are slabs usually problematic? How can one test for the soudness of the slab?
Also, the slab is on the uphill side of the house, and the ground slopes down towards the back door. There is a sizeable piece of patio concrete back there, but still, is this an acceptable drainage situation?
