I got a 1940, 850 sq/ft home that has a crawl space only about 16" deep. The house sits on "post and pillers" with an outside footing of brick. This outside footing of brick is more a facade and does not appear to add anything structural.
My problem is the house, being the oldest on the block, is at least 12" below grade and the floor has shifted. The floor is not level, the crawl is to shallow, and the home is far below grade.
I have the fantacy of placing 2 I-Beams and lifting the home high enough to plave an outside footing. Thus leaving the ibeams in for structural support and rasing the home.
Is this crazy talk? Any advice would be great.
