How do I determine if an interior wall can be removed?

First you must determine which are weight baring walls, and non-weight baring walls.

In basement look at which way the floor joists are running. The floor joists will run parallel with non-weight baring walls.

The walls the joists rest upon are your weight baring walls. These joists will also require center support beams.

After you map this out, you can determine which walls are weight baring. If interior partition walls run with support beams they are weight baring.
