Help! I have 150 yr old home with a stone foundation and dirt floor and no footing. Water (which has always been a bit of a problem) is now becoming a major problem: leaking from holes in mortar, seeping up thru dirt in greater quantities. I've had 5 contractors in and am getting conflicting stories about how to repair. Anyone know if it's possible or a good idea to drill holes in mortar joints at base of stone wall? What about plastic on walls, then pardging? Installation of a fennel ease at base of wall? I was told a French drain w/o a fennel (fenner? can't read guys writing) ease would be dangerous and cause water to erode dirt under found. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm also concerned about structural damage, but none of the contractors so far have said they think I need any major structural repairs. Is an increase in the number of creaky floorboards a bad sign?
