View Full Version : "moisture-proofing" basement to install laminate flooring

We have mold/humidity issues because of (what I believe to be) three factors:
1) drainage bringing some rainwater into 1 car garage - being fixed by installing drainage and grading away from house.
2) old carpet that stores the moisture, which is being thrown out.
3) concrete slab undermining, which is being corrected by removing the portion that slants and repouring concrete.

Current structure is - concrete slab, plywood and sleeper floor and then carpet. We're ripping out the carpet. We're ripping out the plywood where the floor slants, removing concrete, repouring concrete, reapplying (treated) plywood, applying a vapor barrier and then a laminate flooring like Pergo.

Questions: 1) I'm thinking of removing all of the plywood (even where the slab appears to be fine), applying a poly? of sorts or some kind of sealant and then applying the vapor barrier and Pergo. Would you suggest removing all plywood? What kind of poly or sealant should I ask the contractor to use? 2) Does this process sound like it will seal the moisture off enough for a product like Pergo? 3) I read there is a "slab moisture/vapor test" that can be done. Can you tell me where, who and how much I can expect to pay for such a test?

Thank you so much for reading all this!!

Hi, first of all make sure vapor barrier is at least 6mil poly manufactuer is not important
2-there are two products that come to mind thy are bolth from the same manufactuer Aquafin. one is sg2 which is an epoxy vapor barrier that goes on concrete
the other is an admix that goes into the concreti and waterproofs it.
the test you want to do is simple take plastic tape it to concrete if in 24 hours you see no moisture you are good to go.

any questions
